I have been told many times and by different people that I am lucky! A few of them would go on to elaborate why they think I am lucky. I listen. Not because I don't know about my life any better than they do, but because I too can become naively curious about what others see in me. Call it vanity if you like!
If the person talking is a male, they normally say things related to my family. How lucky I am to have a wife and have the children like I have. While he continues to talk, I would let my mind wonder to his family - trying to reflect what kind of a wife or children he has. Often, in doing that, I become convinced myself that I am indeed lucky, and I also see enough goodness in his situation to reciprocate with compliments about his family. At the end of the day, a family is only as good as how much love and respect we have and show for each other!
Narrated Anas ibn Malik: " I have never seen anyone more kind to one's family than the Prophet Muhammad." - Sahih Muslim, Hadith 1077
The Prophet Muhammad ( PBUH ) said: " You will not believe as long as you do not love one another." - Sahih Muslim, Hadith 19
The Prophet Muhammad ( PBUH ) said : " No man loves another for ALLAH sake without his LORD honoring him." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1301
If a female is the person talking, she often says I am lucky to have a good job, big salary, big cars. Then as if she needs to stroke my ego, she often says, how lucky my wife is to be married to me and my children to have me as their father.
My reply, always, is to tell the female acquaintance that my wife may have thought she is lucky too, until she is reminded that she is actually married to me - and not just my good salary, or my big cars and properties. Of course, the self-deprecating humor is not always appreciated.

"O you who believe, do not let your wealth or your children distract you from the remembrance of Allah. As for those who do this, they are indeed the losers." [Al-Munafiqoon: 9]
Luck of course plays a part. However, luck seems to always accompany people who think positive thoughts, say positive words, and generate positive energy. There is a general positiveness about their aura. Lucky people have hiccups of life too; the difference is, they are able to shrug them off and move on.
It is important to bear in mind that while we call ourselves lucky (thanking our lucky stars) or we blame our luck, as the case may be, that doing so, is nothing short of our denying Allah’s Will and His Provision.
Isn’t Allah the one who open the doors of opportunity for us? Should He close them, is there anyone who can open them again?

“Whenever any good news or glad tiding was told to the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam), he would prostrate in gratitude to Allah.” [Sunan Abu Dawud]
A perfect life is a life lived in the way of the Islamic teachings. That is what we all should strive for, and that is what keeps me motivated to continue to be a better person~! A perfect life is when some one comes to tell me I am lucky not only for my worldly achievements, but also because I live my life as a good Muslim!
"...This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed my favor upon you and have chosen for you Islam as your way of life". ( 5 : 3 ) Al-Quran.A perfect life it is not, until we live our lives in accordance with the teachings of Islam.
pP, I find that imperfections are the most interesting things about men (or women)
ReplyDeleteAs someone very wise once said, 'The very perfection of a man is to find out his own imperfections.
